- ABCT has successfully secured funding from the Global Fund against AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria (GFATM) in Round 8. This has enabled us to provide the following training opportunities for our members: from 12th to 16th of July, ABCT will conduct a one week training course for the coordinators of workplace programs. The course will take place in Mbeya (venue will be confirmed in time). For peer educators, a basic training course will be offered from the 18th to the 22 nd of October in Tanga. All training courses will be free of charge for our members. Since the courses are on high demand, early booking is advised. For bookings please contact Upendo Ndunguru or Donald Mwakikao.
- From 12th to 16th of April, ABCT has conducted a training for Peer Basic Education in Dar es Salaam at the Protea Courtyard Hotel. This training was the first training sponsored by the Global Fund to fight HIV, Tuberculosis and Malaria (GFATM) and was offered free to members of ABCT. - On 7th of April, Olaf Hirschmann, Technical Advisor of ABCT, handed over training certificates, bicycles, gumboots and a raincoat to each of the 78 peer educators that are currently active in the Mponde-Tea factory and 34 villages around Mponde from the Usambara Tea Growers Association (UTEGA). The donation was handed over to Hon. William Shellukindo, the MP of Bumbuli, who is also the UTEGA chairperson and Shadhad Mullah, Managing Director of Mponde Tea Factory. Several speeches were given, e.g. by HR Shellukindo, O.Hirschmann, G. Gogo from the Community Health Fund and Mr. Shadhad Mullah who promised to implement this project for a better health provision of his tea workers and farmers. Local leaders, UTEGA leaders and the peer educators appreciated the ceremony, thanked GTZ and ABCT for this support and promised to collaborate fully to implement this PPP. - Upendo Ndunguru, Training Officer of ABCT, is currently training the Peer Educators of the Tanzanian Police Force
- Local Trainers of ABCT in Mbeya, Mrs. Hilda Bukuku and Dr. Missana, have trained the employees of the new plant of Tanzania Breweries before the plant was officially opened
- Mr. Frank Mwakyoma, Trainer of ABCT in Dar es Salaam, has just successfully carried out a study on Knowledge, Attitude and Practice (KAPB-survey) amongst Vodacom employees. The results will be utilized to shape a tailor-made intervention strategy for Vodacom
- The East African Business Council in Cooperation with GTZ-SPAA is currently initiating a Programme on HIV and AIDS that is aimed at voicing the interests of the Private Sector and Businesses in general within the five East African Countries namely Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, Burundi and Rwanda
So far the following activities has been going on:
- Two days workshop attended by ABCT Director and Technical counterpart, whereby ABCT was elected to be a focal point to Tanzania and Zanzibar business coalition
- In the 1st EABC Regional Working Group Meeting on HIV/AIDS held in Arusha, January 2010, Ms. Upendo Ndunguru outlined country level private interventions on HIV/AIDS, as well as ideas and expectations
- Together with EABC and the legal committee of the Task Force on HIV and AIDS Law and Policy, ABCT attended the East Africa Legislative Assembly's General Purposes Committee (EALA-GPC) and was invited to attend a two years meeting in Kampala on the 22nd and 23rd February 2010. The main objective of the meeting was to discuss and analyse the Draft ABCT HIV Bill for a final presentation at EALA.
